Association of Cities in the Republic of Croatia

The Association of Cities is a national, non-partisan and impartial community of cities, founded in 2002 with the aim of encouraging cooperation between local government units and representing the common interests of cities in the Republic of Croatia. Although it has been formally active since 2002, its forms of cooperation and organization date back to 1971.

Today, the Association brings together 127 member cities, home to almost 70% of the total population of Croatia (2,993,438 inhabitants), and covering more than a third of the country's territory. Each city in the Association is represented by a mayor, and the work of the Association is based on the values of representative and inclusive local government, dialogue, ethics and commitment to the public interest.

The Association of Cities advocates for decentralization, strengthening local self-government and modernization of local administration, with an emphasis on cooperation, partnership and recognition of community needs. It actively participates in legislative processes, prepares draft laws, assesses the effects of laws at the local level and provides legal and advisory support to its members. It regularly organizes seminars, conferences, expert meetings and international cooperation.

The Association of Cities is the lead organization for the Creative Cities project, which promotes cultural creativity, strengthens the capacity of local communities, and supports initiatives that connect culture, community, and local development.
